Making the ない-form

Irregular: あります → ない (never あらない).

う-verbs: the a-row slot is filled by わ, not あ.

1. 〜ないでください — please don't

写真しゃしんを撮とらないでください。

心配しんぱいしないでください。Softer than 〜てはいけません (L15) and usable between equals.

2. 〜なければなりません — must / have to

薬くすりを飲のまなければなりません。

Formation: ない → drop い → ければなりません

Despite the double negative shape, this simply means obligation — there's no "not" in the meaning.

Variants: 〜なくてはいけません · 〜なければいけません. Casual: 〜なくちゃ · 〜なきゃ.

3. 〜なくてもいいです — don't have to

明日あした来こなくてもいいです。

Formation: ない → drop い → くてもいいです

4. Object as topic

レポートは明日あした出ださなければなりません。

を is replaced by は when the object is topicalized. Same applies to が.
