1. Demonstratives

Trap: これ/それ/あれ stand alone. この/その/あの mustbe followed by a noun. これ本ほん ✕ → この本ほん ○

2. N1 の N2 — two meanings

3. の replacing a noun

この本ほんはわたしのです。— の stands in for 本ほん.

Exception: の cannot replace a person. あの人ひとはミラーさんのです ✕

4. そうです / そうじゃありません

これは辞書じしょですか。

— はい、そうです。/ いいえ、そうじゃありません。

Also: いいえ、違ちがいます。

5. 〜ですか、〜ですか — A or B

これは「9」ですか、「7」ですか。— 「9」です。

Answer with the item, not はい/いいえ.

6. そうですか

ああ、そうですか。 — "Oh, I see." Falling intonation = understanding; rising = mild surprise.
